About Me
I am Hassan, and, I am a man who keeps myself involved in a world that seduces, sustains, thrills and worries me. My life has been largely lived as a singular person among others- I have been known to be exotic, smart, handsome and yet 'different.' The differences are less from my culture than my virtue of my family of origin- a family that has been torn apart by geographical, but, mainly interpersonal forces. These are forces that repel rather than enjoin members to the task of supporting a family by submerging self, in a fold, in order to use that fold experience to develop as a confident and fit person in the larger society. People can travel around the globe and come to a different land and be more alone than I was when I immigrated as at the age of 10- but less alone in terms of their own being, because, they walk through life with their own invisible family- culture- value- system.
I am by and large an American- as much certainly as my neighbors. I know more than most but in terms of the great American alienation- where family/cultural/ religious 'rules' have been botoxed from the forehead- I am, one and the same.
Like Americans too- when I look to discovering a person to love and open this otherwise heavy weight glass shield around me- I think of things like what to 'do' with that person' will that person join me in doing what is 'fun' for me- the 'exterior features' of a good life.
About you.
Are you a woman with a soul, ready to explore a union with another? Well the process of bearing the layers of the onion scares me- for one thing- there are things in my life that continue to turn me inside out- and always- because I am healthy- it has been best for me- to get out and work/play in the world. I've lived a self- designed therapeutic life- and you have also, though you may use other words to describe your experience. Maybe you’re scared too? But even speaking of allowing myself to be open to a new relationship clouds my day- I keep insisting to myself that a great dancer/kayaker/cook/ goddess of Kama Sutraesque dimensions will make the cloud that lives inside me give way, to the sun.
And yet women I've been told are largely moon people- their dances- given the choice- would be more group-like and occurring in full moons with enormous exclusivity and mystery.
What she 'does' with her time and what I do with mine is, in my opinion, far from the crux of the matter. I do not believe that love hits us with any form of logic or timing- it merely hits us- and when it's Jekyll-Hyde head butts our own- the Jekyll is generally something that we'd not see nor anticipate in the other- because that's not the nature of this phenomenal human potion.
I am looking for a Collision of Fantasies. Sometimes someone says something really small and it fits right into this empty place in our heart...There comes a time in every life when we find the heart we're looking for....With a thousand different voices ringing in our ears. Then we listen to the whisper only the heart can hear...If it is meant to be, our hearts will find each other when we meet.
“Why Hassan,” a friend offered recently, “I might know of a woman you might find enlightening. Women who are clever in their performance of the details of living come in all different sorts. But when a woman has danced in that deep Forrest of night- with the audacity of nakedness and only that bonfire to stave off the cold- you will not be so concerned about the performances or the other oar of the boat- I'm thinking- I'm thinking that should my moon goddess not attend that latest rendition of Sweeney Todd I will enjoy it with another or alone even more than before because each time she dances in moonlight- she returns to me with more power to erase forever those clouds of loneliness that have been crying within me all these years.
Now I'm uncertain as to the exact address of this woman. I am certain that you can find her.”

My likes?
In music: Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor in the category of classic rock. Like many, I like some songs by these artists more than others and after listening to old Beatles songs recently have to emphasize that I mostly like the songs I am familiar with- the hits. I also like classical music. I like Bizet’s “March of the Vaalkeers” Beethoven’s 5th and 9th symphonies and a few songs from the opera “Carmen.” I love classic rock. Basically, I like stuff depending on my mood. I don’t like Rap!
In theater: musicals and comedies. Dramas and mysteries I can sit through, but, they require too much concentration and, after all, I am going out to give my brain a rest (Not that I use it all that much. LOL
In reading- I enjoy mysteries ironically. I have read all the John Grisham novels, Tom Clancy’s and some of Nelson Demills’ thrillers. I once read all the Sherlock Holmes novels but find them more of a brain drain these days. Maybe I’ll come back to them again?
In magazines- Trash (gossip papers, I subscribe to Time magazine and, I used to love Life magazine for the photography (One of my hobbies.)
In cooking? From recipe books otherwise I overuse the spices- cumin and cardamom for example. I like to add fennel to my yogurt and jalapenos to everything. Yes, I like my food spicy and hot!
